There’s one very good reason to follow the recommended guidelines for air duct cleaning, which include making sure your home’s Air Duct System is inspected every two years and that Air Ducts Cleaning is done as often as needed: Your family’s health.
Air Duct Cleaning is a standard residential maintenance procedure that removes potentially harmful debris, mold growth spores, mildew, dust mites, pet hair, particulate matter, pollen, dirt, and other contaminants lurking within a building’s air ducts, thereby greatly improving indoor air quality. Cleaning out your home’s air duct should be done at least every five years – or about every three years, if you have smokers, animals, sufferers of asthma and allergies, frequent visitors, or high energy bills.
Indoor air quality is a major factor in a person’s health. Breathing in mold, smoke particles, dander and other contaminants has a cumulative injurious effect on the lungs and respiratory system. Because we want your home to be as healthy as you do, JCS Home Services follows all Air Duct Cleaning recommendations set forth by industry standards.
It takes a team of at least two home service professionals to perform a proper residential Air Duct Cleaning job. Our process begins by identifying the location of your home’s Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system. Most homes in Northern Virginia and Washington DC have one HVAC unit installed; larger buildings may have two or more.
Once the JCS team has pinpointed the whereabouts of the air conditioning system, we then find all air vents and registers in every area of the abode. By knowing the locations of your system’s air intakes and outlets, the JCS team can determine the locations of the duct work that transports air throughout the home. At that point we know what needs to be cleaned, and we get down to work with our superior Duct Cleaning.
When the JCS Home Services truck arrives at your home to clean out the air ducts, we’ll bring a little help: A duct-cleaning vacuum cleaner we call “Cotton.”
Cotton is positioned next to the primary HVAC unit and connected via connector hose to the ductwork, inserted in an 8- to 10-inch hole in the duct. (Cutting a hole in the duct is standard procedure for Air Duct Cleaning, and JCS will patch and seal the hole when the job is completed.)
The JCS team then goes around the entire house, covering every vent, register and grill with a special film to seal the home’s duct network while preventing mold, debris, and contamination from being expelled out of the ducts and into the rooms (and maybe your lungs) during the cleaning air process. We also take especial care to cover and protect sensitive areas, such as furniture, nurseries, TVs, entertainment centers and other high-occupancy areas.
It usually takes between 2.5 and 3.5 hours to perform a thorough duct cleaning, but this estimate can vary depending upon the home’s size, the number and length of the domicile’s air ducts, and how dirty they were to begin with.
Upon completion of the air duct clean operation, the JCS team performs a detailed inspection to ensure that the cleanliness and quality matches our company’s lofty standards – and meets the needs of a health-conscious family.
